The Gas Sediment Trap replaces a multi-piece fabrication that's required by code when installing various gas appliances like water heaters and boilers. It's installed at the lowest point in the gas line, as close to the appliance as possible. As the gas flow changes direction at the 90 deg angle of the tee, loose particles in the line drop into the capped elongated branch, preventing them from entering the appliance and causing malfunctions or fires.
